Zahidur Rahman - Msc in Marine Technology (Naval Architecture)

Having graduated from the University of Cambridge with a Masters in Engineering Sciences (specialism Mechanical), I had already obtained the Master’s degree qualification necessary to work towards Chartered Engineer status.  However, my motivation for doing the MTEC course was to gain more familiarity with the wider Marine Industry in which I was working.  I also saw the programme as a useful method of demonstrating Continual Professional Development (CPD) as I knew this was a requirement for gaining Chartered Engineer status with my chosen institution (RINA).  The MTEC scheme has fulfilled these aims resulting in me gaining Chartered Engineer status well before completing the programme, and also provided me with a thorough background in the Marine Industry from a technical and regulatory perspective.  The fact the course is part-time and distance-learning is ideally suited to those with full-time jobs.  During the Modular Intensive Schools I also made useful contacts and good friendships, which I hope will continue after having completed the course.  I highly recommend the programme to anyone considering taking it on.

Currently employed at DNV GL-Oil & Gas as a Senior Engineer, Jack Up and Geotechnical Group
